  There are times when life gets hard.  Friends and family no longer lift the spirits and the difficulties intensify.  All seems dark and heavy.  Like the night, tears blend with the darkness and the heart sighs wordlessly searching for hope and answers.  It is one of those times in our lives right now. The early morning hours call to me.  I rise before dawn and head outside.  A huge full moon greets me.  The darkness of the night is pushed back as the moon faithfully reflects the sun.  Yet the moon has no light of its own.  It is a cold dark hunk of rock, lifeless.  Yet, God has set it in the night sky to reflect the light and glory of the sun.  With its reflective soft light, gloom is dispelled and hope renewed.

   How like the moon we are as Christians.  We have no light of our own.  We have no glory in which we can take pride.  Our glory is only present when we reflect God’s glory in a very dark world.  We don’t become the hope, we don’t become the light – we only reflect it.  But what glorious reflection it can be.  The moon’s light is not needed in the light of the day.  The moon’s light is needed when the world is the darkest. 

     My world is dark. Tears dwell behind my eyes and my heart lays heavy within my chest.  Oh, light of God shine upon me and allow your brilliance to light the night sky.  It is your glory, it is your honor, that brings peace and hope.  I need you Lord.  I cannot do this without you.  This path you have set my feet upon is breaking my heart.  Be my strength.  Be my guide, oh Holy, Holy, Holy, God shine your divine light upon me and help me shine in this darkness.
